Remember the 2008 olympics held in Beijing? The Chinese government banned 50% of piston ICE vehicles in order to cut air pollution, so the olympic runners wouldn’t keel over from lack of oxygen. – Their strategy did the trick.
2008 was the same year Ken Rieli led a Michigan Technological University senior design team to prove his ultra-efficient hybrid drivetrain could cut urban traffic pollution. Even though the project model used an ordinary piston engine, the drivetrain was proven to slash pollution in stop-and-go driving cycles by over 90 percent. – One of the students was promptly hired by GM to work on their hybrid vehicles.
The STAR of the show, however, is Ken’s pulse detonation turbine engine. This project is in development and will save lives around the globe.
